TOWES en français - Update
(November 4, 2004) - In the spring of 2004, our college partners (TREAQ-FP,
Cegep Sorel Tracy, College Boreal, College La Cite, New Brunswick Community
College) participated in a field test of the first version of TOWES in
French. This test was roughly equivalent to a G2 and consisted of 20 problem
sets. Over the summer months, the booklets were marked by Francophone test
markers in Vancouver - the raw data was sent to Dr. Theresa Kline at the
University of Calgary for analysis. In total, about 350 French cases were
compared to 350 English cases (test takers with similar demographic variables)
to establish if the French and English version of the test was performing/measuring
in the same way. Findings suggest that 75% of the questions are exactly
the same in English and in French. The 25% that exhibited differences will
be rewritten and tested in the future.
Where are we now with the project? We have just finished the adaptation,
layout and printing of Booklets B & C and will begin a small field
test (100 booklets) in November/December. A larger field test (800 test
takers) will take place with the partners in the Spring of 2005.
The final versions of the French TOWES will be made available to the French
speaking market in the fall of 2005.
