TOWES moves into BC high schools

Preparing for work in the trades just became a little easier for high school students in British Columbia thanks to a new pilot project with TOWES and British Columbia’s Industry Training Authority and Ministry of Education.

The pilot involves students in grades 10, 11 and 12 who are enrolled in the province’s ACE IT initiative, a program where students as young as 15 years of age can work towards their apprenticeship certification while in high school. The purpose of the project is to benchmark the essential skills competency levels of ACE-IT students and then develop system-wide approaches to address potential gaps in Essential Skills..

The first phase of the pilot starts in the fall of 2006 and will involve up to 15 school districts and 300 students. It is expected that all school districts could be involved starting in the fall of 2007.
