Which version of TOWES are you writing?
TOWES is not a single assessment. There are many versions
of TOWES. Some tests web-based, some are paper, and they range in
length and difficulty.
All TOWES assessments measure literacy and essential skills in
the areas of reading text, document use and numeracy.
- Some assessments measure all three essential skills (reading
text, document use and numeracy). Some measure only one or
two skills.
- Assessments range in difficulty. Your administrator will
select an assessment that is best suited for your needs.
- The length of assessments varies. Assessment times range
from 1 hour to 3 hours. Typically, paper assessments take
about 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes to complete. Web-based
assessment normally range between 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours in
length.
All TOWES assessments follow the same format. The
assessments contain a series of authentic documents from the
workplace or from daily life. You will use your skills to
complete questions or "tasks" directly related to the
documents.
You may not be familiar with the subject matter of the document
but all of the information you need to answer the question is
contained within the material provided. You should be
able to answer the question or "perform" the task because your
essential skills are transferable from one situation to
another.
